Clinical Hypnotherapy is not the same as stage hypnosis! It is often used in the medical field for phobias, anxiety disorders, pain management, weight loss, smoking cessation and much more.
Although still considered controversial, it has been proven by research to be an effective treatment for a vast array of psychological and physical presenting issues.
What Is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy differs from stage hypnosis which uses people reading skills to recruit suitable subjects who are willing to accept suggestions for entertainment purposes.
Hypnotherapy employs heightened awareness via the hypnogogic state to access the subconscious mind. You enter into natural hypnogogic states frequently throughout the day for instance when driving or reading a book. Hypnotherapy guides your natural ability to do this and enter into a peaceful and relaxed state whilst you remain in control. Hypnotherapists cannot make you do anything against your will – during hypnotherapy, you are always in charge of your own actions.
A hypnogogic state means that you are not asleep or unconscious – you are merely in an altered state of consciousness and will be able to break out of this hypnogogic trance at any time you want.
How Does Hypnotherapy Help?
In the hypnogogic state, you are deeply relaxed. Because your conscious mind is quieted your unconscious mind can focus more deeply on your issue. Because you are calmer you are more receptive to your deeper thoughts and feelings.
Safely beneficial suggestions can help you to change your behaviour, your inner mind may tap into cognitive-behavioural coping skills, such as guided imagery and the STOP! Technique to reduce anxiety and fear.
